Instagram approached us and asked if we would be interested in developing some illustration and animation content to help UNICEF reach out to audiences with their tips on “How to talk to your child about war“.

Of course, this is a difficult subject matter aimed at a vulnerable audience, but we were honoured to be given the opportunity to try and help in a small way.

We produced the first set of illustrations in a caring and emotional style, with the intention that parents might be happy to show to their children when answering any questions they might have.

The content was received so well that TomandSteve went on to produce four more sets of content;

8 tips to help you support your child during the war – Please view an example of the guides on UNICEF’s Site.

• 5 tips for dealing with uncertainty in times of war

• 4 tips on building better relationships

• 4 tips to support your teen’s mental health

Below you can see some of the illustrations that we created specifically for this campaign. They are considered and peaceful illustrations, designed in a way that would appeal to the young audience.

The response to these illustrations on Unicef’s Instagram channel was so huge, that it was requested that we convert them into animations that could work as Gifs to be used on Unicef’s own website, as well as Instagram Reels.

The production of the animated guides turned out to be a huge success, with many of the Instagram Reels that we created achieved several hundred thousand views each, meaning the total reach and viewcount amassed far beyond several million. We are super proud of this series, and hope that it helped those in need in some capacity.

This series of work allowed UNICEF to create a wealth of content for online audiences, not only on their social channels, but also as online guides, and even printable guides. The characters were even used as inspirational posters and email mail-outs. By allowing TomandSteve to help from the start of the project, we ensured maximum exposure for UNICEF.
